El Mercado de San Miguel

Food Market / Architecture

Website

El Mercado de San Miguel is a vibrant food market in Madrid. With its elegant iron structure, it houses a variety of stalls offering delicious Spanish delicacies. From fresh seafood to gourmet tapas and fine wines, it’s a must-visit for food lovers. A little bit expensive – so just take some tapas a wine and then move for example to XXX or XXX afterwards.

Do: Spanish cuisine in general ,Seafood
Do not: Buy stupid food: Mozzarella buns, japanese ice cream, colored mini burgers look good – taste mediocre.

上海老生煎

Shanghai Pan Fried Dumplings

Google Maps

Why are there Chinese Dumplings on my favorite food list in Madrid? Because this is my list. This is a real secret. If you want to see a real market hall from the inside, with real people doing their business and want to eat fantastic for not so much money – this is your choice.  Go there with a group and order random dumplings. Fantastic! It is inside the market hall!

La Paradita Tapas Bar

Tapas Bar

Google maps

La Paradita Tapas Bar: Where taste meets affordability, this place is perfect for a quick and budget-friendly tapas fix. The extensive menu offers a range of options at reasonable prices. It’s a self-service setup, so be prepared to order at the bar. The terrace provides a great view of the Royal Palace, but it gets crowded on weekends. Good value for money. Just be prepared for queues on busy days. Overall, a decent spot to enjoy Madrid with the four Bs: Bueno, Bonito, Barato y Beer!

Bar Vistillas

Tapas/ Bar/ Nice Views

If you are near the Cathedral, this is the perfect place to be.  Beautiful terrace, best view and often you are getting a nice spot to sit. Perfect place to drink a Tinto de Verano or a Aperol Spritz and share some food

Juanchos BBQ

Best Hamburger in Spain

Google Maps

The best Burger in Spain. Not as fancy as your typical Hipster Hamburger from Hamburg, but the quality of meat is otherworldly. Do not go to the Juanchos bbq in the center. It is for Amateurs. Go to the one in the Food court of the Market of Chamberi. (Use the metro).

1. Order the Bacon Juancheeseburger with Fries and the Mamba Sauce. No other. It is the best.
2. Get a Jamonera Beer at the la Virgina Brewery stand next to Juanchos bbq.
3. Get some Sake from the Japanese vendor on the other side. (You can’t skip this step!)

Eat. Drink. Repeat Step 2 and 3.

If you think that an american hamburger, spanish beer, and japanese sake are not fitting together. You are wrong. The best.
Afterward you can check out the neighborhood of Chamberi, where there are some nice fancy bars or go afterwards to the club Suéltate el Pelo.

Superchulo Madrid

A nice vegetarian Restaurant. Colorful vegan & vegetarian cuisine like pizza & pasta served up in an airy space.

La Buha Chueca

Tapas

Google Maps

A Tipp from Lucias Family (Gracias Almu!): La buha y el búho. Both situated next to each other. Nice Tapas at a cool city spot.

BARS/ NIGHTLIFE / CLUBS

Well these bars are not in the center – because surprise – we live somewhere else. Get into the Metro and visit my favorite places:

El Tigre

Tapas/ Drinks/ Start here you evening

Google maps

Bar El Tigre in Madrid. If you can overlook the quantity-over-quality approach, and you’re up for a challenge and hungry for a bargain, this legendary tapas joint might just be your quirky start into the nightlife of madrid. Just order drinks and find a table  – food will magically appear on your table for free.  18 Year old Leon would love this place. There is a upper flor with more seating. Maybe not the best place for vegans.

Funambulista Bar

Coctelería/ Bar

Google Maps

I nice, but small Coctelería en Madrid.

Good service and awesome cocktails!

El pez gato

Google Maps

An awesome pub to continue the evening. Try their Vermouth drinks! Their logo remembers me to Ralf. 😉

Suéltate el Pelo

Club/Bar/Disco

https://maps.app.goo.gl/o7r8JKpkwKPRcgud7

Suéltate el Pelo in Madrid is not just a bar—it’s a vibrant time capsule of Spanish pop-rock music and nostalgia. Step into this lively establishment where the playlist takes you on a journey from the Movida Madrileña to the latest Spanish hits. It’s not just a pub; it’s a living museum of our pop culture, a whimsical meeting spot where the nostalgic can revel in the games, toys, dolls, and references of the ’80s and ’90s. It’s where Bud Spencer meets Sesame Street, creating a unique blend of music, memories, and sheer fun.

Remembers Leon to the Waechter in Braunschweig.

Tip: They open a second floor in the basement, when it is full.

The Irish Rover
